Just ahead of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s rally in Surat, Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) legislature Gulab Singh was arrested by Delhi Police on October 16.
Singh, who is an AAP MLA from Delhi, was AAP’s party in-charge in Gujarat and was arrested on the charges of extortion in Surat.
Early Sunday morning, a team of Delhi Police officials had flown out from the national capital to Surat and arrested Gulab Singh just hours before Arvind Kejriwal was to address a rally there.
Singh has been in and out of Gujarat for past few months and had made himself available at the Umra police station ahead of Delhi Police’s arrival.
He was accompanied by Delhi Tourism minister Kapil Mishra, who later tweeted about his arrest.
Delhi Police had earlier issued a non-bailable warrant against Gulab Singh for failing to join an investigation with regards to an extortion case involving his associates.
With this latest arrest, Singh becomes the 14th AAP legislator from Delhi to be arrested in a criminal case.
