Orissa is at the position number five by having 5.03 million hectares covered under forests. The state has been taking constructive steps to increase this area every year.

The Forest Survey Conducted in 2014 has stated that the total forest cover of the state stands at 5.06 million hectares. That is a huge jump from the figure of 4.68 million that was recorded in the survey conducted in 2007.
The state was earlier on the fifth spot, but their green efforts have promoted it to one spot high. The famous Western Ghats have been declared an UNESCO Heritage Site.
Chhatisgarh might be small in comparison to the other states, but the forest cover here is 5.6 million hectares.
What is alarming and worrying the environmentalists is the fact that the figure has not grown at all since the 2007 survey.
The state has a rich diversity when it comes to forest cover and different kinds of plants and animals are found there. The forest cover of the state is 6.73 million hectares and it continues to hold the second position since 2007.
But an alarm has been sounded in all circles since the cover has decreased from an earlier figure of 6.8 million hectares.
Madhya Pradesh holds the top spot when it comes to states with the largest forest cover. The figure is an impressive 7.75 million hectares.
And what’s even more commendable is the fact that the figured has actually increased from a previous figure of 7.64 million hectares.
