Hooch Tragedy In UP: At Least 17 Dead, Over 100 Admitted To Hospitals

At least 17 people died and over 100 were admitted to various hospitals after consuming spurious liquor or hooch in Uttar Pradesh.

The tragedy took place in Aliganj area when locals consumed liquor at a late night get together. They soon started vomiting, complained of nausea and blurred vision.

Taking a strong cognizance of the tragedy, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav suspended at least seven police and excise department officers.

Meanwhile, six other policemen were also suspended in the matter, said SSP Etah Ajai Shankar Rai.

Police has arrested Shripal, from whose shop liquor was brought and hunt is on to nab four others who allegedly made the illicit liquor.

 


The Chief Minister also said the state would bear the expenses of treatment of those who lost eyesight in the tragedy.
District Magistrate Ajay Yadav announced an ex-gratia of two lakh rupees each to the families of the deceased.
