How lucky are the people living in the mountains. They don’t have to get boiled down by the Indian summer heat. But, for us, the ones living in the cities, how much we wish to just go off to some snowy mountain peak and feel like the luckiest person on earth. Well, find some time, may be a week or two at the most, pack your bags and move out of your houses! It’s summer and high time for us to go mountain trotting. But, let’s give Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh a break and look eastwards. Here are a few of the most picturesque mountain destinations in the North East India that you would love to visit:
10. Mount Khangchendzonga
This is the go-to mountain peak for every tourist who wishes to explore the North East. The height is approximately 27,803 feet above sea level. This is the third highest peak in the World. We’ve read this in geography books, but to see it in front of your eyes is just unreal. Go visit this place for some exquisite sights.
9. Sela Pass
A visit to the North East is incomplete without making a trip to Sela Pass. No frame can capture the beauty of the mountain ranges and valleys. It is at an altitude of 13,000 feet above sea level, beat that! Just stand and watch for a while – a few minutes of viewing is equal to relieving a week’s stress. 8. Gorichen Peak
The Gorichen Peak in Arunachal Pradesh is one which will allow you to scale it. It stands at nearly 6,500 meters above sea level, but the meagre height (compared to others!) will leave you exhausted. It is not as easy as you think it is. The summit is a vantage point to some extraordinary views which you will miss if you dont scale the peak. Get ready for some hard work!
Sandakphu is located in West Bengal, which almost reaches the border of Sikkim. It stands tall at 11,000 feet above sea level. Again, once you trek and climb through the peak you will be able to get a gorgeous view of the Khangchendzonga, which is one of the highest peaks in the World. You’ll get a mixture of both beautiful views and great adventure.

Goecha La Trek is one of the highest mountain passes of Sikkim. It stands at a height of 5,000 meters above sea level. The beautiful view of the mountain peaks and valleys are something to die for. This place also provides ample scope for lovers of trekking. While trekking you will also come across beautiful rhododendron flowers, perfect for our heated and stressed minds.
5. Yumthang Valley
Speaking of Rhododendrons – this is the best place to find some of the most beautiful and greatest varieties. The Yumthang Valley is situated in the north of Sikkim at a height of 14,000 feet above sea level. Come winter and it’s the best place for adventure sports. But the summers will serve you right in relaxing you to the core.
4. Nathu La Pass
Nathu la Pass in Sikkim is one of the most beautiful passes here. It is also an important trading route between the countries of India and China. The peaks are very beautiful and the valleys offer great scope for trekking. You can opt for such wonderful scenery and views at Nathu La. 3. Dzukou Valley
The Dzukou valley is located in the Nagaland Manipur valley. The views are breathtaking and you must visit this in the summer months to get the maximum comfort and beauty. The lilies present here are too good to believe. It’s an absolute treat for the eyes during summer and perfect for us to wander off to see such stuff.
2. Jaintia Hills
The Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya is place for great adventure activity. All you must do is visit this place and get going for some fun. The rainfall here is a tad too much, but you can avoid too much of it by researching on the best time for visit. There are beautiful caves and limestone rocks which enrich the beauty of the place.

Shillong Peak in Meghalaya is one of the best in the state. It is one of the highest peaks in Meghalaya. The breathtaking views will allow you to relax as much as you want – the scenery’s are extraordinarily beautiful. You will love the visit, it’s worth your time and effort.
